Saturday, 27th August 2011, saw the crème de la creme of Highland & Islands athletes travel to Wishaw to compete in the Scottish Athletics Under 16 & Under 18 Inter-Regional Competition. Selection for the Inter-regional team is a very prestigious honour, being just one step away from national selection and for the competing athletes is a fitting way to begin the draw down to a season of fantastic effort and achievements.
Representing Ross County Athletic Club in this inaugural fixture were: Johnny Grant – Hammer & Discus, Douglas Holland – 400m & 1500m, Joanna MacDonald - Long Jump, 200m & 80m Hurdles, Luke Shaw – 1500m. As it is with all of Scottish Athletics major events, it was an early start from Inverness for the team bus, what were you doing at 6am on Saturday? Hopefully our four club athletes were settling down to sleep and rest or maybe breakfast on the go? Whatever it was, it seemed to do the trick as the black n reds had a great day and a wonderful set of results, helping the team to a wonderful 4th place on the day.
Johnny achieved a bronze in only his 2nd competitive Hammer event. Joanna set a PB in the Long Jump, 4.23m, Douglas was 2nd in the 400m setting a PB and Luke had a 4.28 PB in the 1500. Well done to our very own Fab 4, the Petrofac Final is next.
