This years cross-country season exploded into life at Fort William, when Lochaber AC hosted the first race of the Speyside Runner North District Cross Country League. Fresh from a great season of Track n Field, the Black 'n' Red vests of Ross County Athletics Club were out in relative force, for a small club, to make their mark in the mud, bogs, hill and rain at the foot of BenNevis. Our solitary U11 competitor, Erin Robinson, in her first cross-country event was a very commendable 9th, completing a tough course in exactly 6 minutes. In the U13 Girls race, the team was 3rd equal, with an U13 first timer, Corrin Blake, just pipped into 2nd place and followed by Catriona Holland, Abby Macgregor and Molly Todd. The U13 Boys were all competing for the first time in this age group and were 4th Team home, with Luke Shaw posting a 2nd place, the day before his astounding Baxters Loch Ness 5km victory. Finlay Todd, Logan Mathieson and Hamish Kerr providing excellent support. In the U15 Girls race, our 2 girls, Hanna Cleghorn and Mairi Gilmour were an excellent 5th. Hanna, in her first outing as a very young U15, was the race winner, 15 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor, and running a strong field of U17s into the ground. Our solitary U15 Boy, Paul Holden made it a well-deserved 5th place for his singleton team. In theU17 category we saw Ryan Moodie stride out as a newbe and pull off a remarkable 2nd place, behind a vastly more experienced Craig Campbell of Inverness Harriers. The Senior Men duo of Colin Gilmour and Thomas Mathieson made it round a very tough course to put the men into 5th placed team.
